Why I Started This Blog
Single. Female. Nurse. 40. Dog. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Asking myself when can I quit nursing?
More specifically, how can I get out of the grind? Go back to school? I hear psych NPs are making some serious dough. Or leave the hospital? Nurses on TikTok are declaring happiness from "ditching the bedside" in exchange for administration/remote work. Invent some clinical technology that makes me millions. I need a plan.
Enter the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement. I read up on it. At first glance, it seemed to be about super frugal young tech dudes that end up becoming millionaires by 40. That's not me. And to be honest, it was a little bit of a turn off. But, like I said, I need a plan and one that I can control. Spending less, saving more is one thing I can control.
I'm starting much later in life than the star children of FIRE, but I'm determined to quit nursing and be financially independent before 67 years old (what the social security administration website calls "Full (normal) Retirement Age").
The goal: financial independence and retire EARLIER. I would like to quit nursing by 55.
My plan: learn about FIRE and use what applies to the life of a 40 year old single nurse.
There you have it. A goal and a plan. That's a start.
I'll use this space to document this journey, learnings and progress. Feel free to tag along!
